A voice for our community
One important way our town run smoothly is through our local community board.
The Cambridge Community Board represents and advocates on behalf of our residents. As a publicly elected body, it serves the crucial function of bridging the gap between Waipā District Council and the community.
Elected for a three-year term, the Board opens its doors to all community members, welcoming them to participate in meetings, have a say in local matters that are important to them, and voice their concerns in a public forum.
One of the Board’s primary functions is to gather community feedback on council projects and plans to shape the decisions and policies put forward by the Council. It also makes formal submissions on behalf of the community, ensuring that the collective voice is heard and considered in local governance.
The board administers a discretionary fund each year for community groups seeking financial assistance for projects and initiatives that enrich or make our community a better place to live.
Sister cities
The Community Board’s commitment to community engagement is extended through Cambridge’s relationships with its sister cities in Bihoro in Japan and Le Quesnoy in France. These relationships are more than just symbolic; they are actively maintained and advanced through cultural exchanges, delegation visits, and events that celebrate our international connections.
ANZAC Day and Armistice Day
Cambridge’s ANZAC and Armistice Day commemorations are organised by the Cambridge Community Board. Held at the Cambridge Town Hall on the 25 April and 11 November, respectively, as well as a smaller ceremony on 4 November at the Le Quesnoy sculpture, the community gathers to respect and remember these historical events.
